Asian Continental Championship: China dominates speed

The Chinese climbers took all the medals in the discipline, but Korea and Japan lead in bouldering

The last day of the Asian Championship was a busy and eventful day. Due to the heavy rain, the speed finals were moved to the last day. A big audience witness a thrilling bouldering qualification, though, unfortunately, the rain disturbed the show. Kim Ja In (KOR) won the gold medal, Chong Leong Hong from Singapore gained the silver and Han Seuran, also from Korea, ended third. In the men category, Hori Tsukuru from Japan won the gold medal, while the Korean Son Sangwon and Kim Jang Hyuk classified second and third.
Fast, faster, fastest
For a loud cheering home audience, in front of a very large media attendance, the Chinese climbing team demonstrated they are taking speed climbing to the next stage.
In the women’s final 15 meters, He Cuifang (CHN) won with the impressing time of 10.86. China also took silver, with the second place of He Cuilian, and bronze, with Li Chun-hua’s third place.
In the men’s final, the Chinese Zhong Qixin only took 7.8 seconds to finish the 15 meter climb.
Zhang Ning (CHN) arrived second while the third place was gained by Chen Xiaojie, for an all Chinese podium.
With the speed finals, the first climbers to qualify for the discipline to the World Games 2009 are now known. The gold and silver medalist will represent China in the World Games.
New in the program of the 17th Asian Championship was the speed team relay.
The Chinese men, women and mixed teams won the gold medals, while the Kazakhstan men and women teams arrived second, together with the mixed team from Kirgiz Republic.
